Main Fields of Activity Population growth rate and migration issues; Economic problems of raw materials potential use: main trends of employment provision in agriculture; Establishment of state system to stimulate innovation projects in Armenia; Issues concerning efficient use of copper-molybdenum, copper and gold deposits; Economic problems tied with elaboration of a system for fuel and energy complex regulation in Armenia; Environmental & economic problems of Armenian industry, motor transport and agriculture development; Problems of effective management of state revenues and expenditures; Problems of financial flows transformation into real inves-tment in Armenia; Problems of agrarian market formation and growth in Armenia; Development of commercial and economic relations with Ukraine, Belarus, Iran and Turkey.

Main Results The following themes are explored in the institute: 1. "Fundamentals of effective structure formation of employment" It illustrates the present state of employment subsidiary structure, assessing the structural modifications for 1990-2000 and introducing the subjective role of privatisation on the corresponding movements in employment subsidiary structure as to privatisation forms (state, private, cooperative, mixed, joint, etc.) 2. "Basic ecological-economic issues of development in the Republic of Armenia" Within its contents, main ecological-economic problems of industry development in the RA are explored. Here, also methodology principles of economic mechanism formation of natural resources utilization and compensation are illustrated. 3. "Basic issues of innovation activity development in the Republic of Armenia" Here, the economic, legal and organisational proceedings of innovation activity and its gradual development are explored for a range of countries during the accountable period. The topic also covers the present state of innovation activity in Armenia, as well as its regulation priorities. The list and brief content of proposed innovations for introducing into production are developed by the Institute Departments of Natural Sciences and Scientific Centres of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. 4. "Basic issues of effective use of useful metal resources in the Republic of Armenia". Here, the fundamentals of the iron-stones extraction and exploitation are explored, which are wide-spread in Armenia, but so far have no industry application. It's obvious that in near future , to meet the present and perspective demand of metal products and to supply them to international market, the need of opening black metallurgy industry is to come up. 5. " Fundamentals of financial flows, investment management of economic growth and capital market development in the Republic of Armenia" The topic covers those problems , which are serious obstacles on the way of converting state inner financial flows into investment flows, as well as in terms of directing them towards real economy. The topic is also exploring the results and consequences of implemented anti-inflation monetary policy from1995-1999 and its effectiveness in terms of providing stable economic growth. 6. "Strategic problems of agriculture development and food security strengthening in the Republic of Armenia" To disclose the strategic problems of further agriculture development in the country and food supply to population , and to give corresponding recommendations on the case , the objective and subjective reasons of decline of effective production resources in agriculture and reduction of gross output are included in the topic. 7. "Export encouragement and import regulation in the Republic of Armenia". Within the context , the need of establishing legal field for free economic relations in the Republic of Armenia is emphasised. In this respect , the integration of the RA into the World Trade Organisation is very important. Besides, the country should make it a task to join the Eurasian Economic Commonwealth. The investigation is trying to validate the expediency of RA cooperation with the above-mentioned organisations. 8. "Basic Economic issues of power-engineering development in the RA". Topic is covering the economic issues of power-engineering and its security, as well as the assessments of restoring previous relations and further developing new ones in the RA power-engineering. 9. "Basic issues of fiscal policy in the Republic of Armenia" It covers main principles of fiscal policy and its role in macroeconomic stabilisation , as well as in the development of state economy. These approaches and principles, which directly relate to present social-economic conditions and promote the solution of strategic issues, are taken into consideration. Scientific publications: - Michael Kotanyan Market Economy, Social, Economic and Political Relations - Vladimir Khodjabekyan Employment problems in Armenia in transition The Institute has participated in the international symposia in Russia, USA, Czecho-Slovakia, Germany, Iran, Austria, Bulgaria and France. In 1995 The Union of Economists of Armenia together with the F.Ebert International Fund has organised 6 scientific-practical workshops on "Armenia on the road to the free market economy".

Internartional Activity The institute co-operates with: - The Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Science - "Problems of theory and practice in management" journal as an associate member - Problem groups of International Economic Union to organise seminars, scientific meetings and other activities - RF Science Academy "Society and Economy" journal to participate in conferences and to publish scientific articles.
