Professor Donald Knuth, a renowned researcher in computer science and programming, will be conferred with Diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa of NAS RA on June 9, 2006.

In May 2005 the Presidium of NAS RA awarded Prof. Donald E. Knuth, Professor Emeritus of the Art of Computer Programming at Stanford University, with the Diploma of Honorary Doctor of NAS RA, acknowledging his outstanding scientific achievements and contribution to the development of computer science and programming.

A special ceremony devoted to this event will be held on June 9, 2006 at the Presidium of NAS RA with participation of eminent Armenian scientists. We are happy today having Prof. Donald Knuth and his spouse Mrs. Jill Knuth visiting Armenia as the guests of AUA, NAS RA, YSU and SEUA.

Prof. Donald Knuth started his scientific activity in early 1960s. He is the author of multi-volume books on The Art of Computer Programming and Computers and Typesetting, which was translated into many languages of the world and has become a handbook for the millions of scientists and scholars. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering and many other national and international academic and scientific societies. He has made an outstanding contribution to the progress of computer science and programming and has created the TEX language for high quality polygraphy for publishing scientific works, which is now widely spread all over the world, etc.

We hope that Prof. D.Knuth's visit will encourage further development of information technologies and computer science in Armenia.
