New President, Vice President and Academician-Secretary of NAS RA are elected

    On June 28, elections of the President, Vice President and Academician-Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS) were held.
    Academician Ashot Saghyan,  the director of the Scientific and Production Center "Armbiotechnology" of NAS, was elected the President of NAS.
    Three candidates were nominated for the post of the President of NAS: the Academician-Secretary of the Division of Mathematics and Technical sciences of NAS, academician Lenser Aghalovyan, the director of the Scientific-Production Center "Armbiotechnology" of NAS, academician Ashot Saghyan and the academician Eduard Khazaryan. In the first round, none of the candidates received a sufficient number of votes. In the second round with a ratio of 55 votes in favor, 34 against and 5 invalid, the academician Ashot Saghyan was elected the President of NAS.



    The newly elected President of NAS Ashot Saghyan proposed the candidacy of Hrant Matevosyan, the corresponding member of NAS, for the position of the Vice President of NAS, and the candidacy of Artur Ishkhanyan, the  corresponding member of NAS, for the position of the Academician-Secretary of NAS. As a result of a closed secret ballot, Hrant Matevosyan was elected the Vice President of NAS with 80 votes in favor and 12 against. Artur Ishkhanyan was elected the Academician-Secretary of NAS with 80 votes in favor and 12 against.

  

    The election and approval of the Academician-Secretaries of the scientific divisions of NAS and the election of the members of the Presidium of NAS will take place on June 29.

On October 24, 2025, the book presentation with the title "Tigranakert of Artsakh: The Historical and Cultural Image in the Light of Archaeological Research" (Yerevan, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography Press, 2025) will take place at the Round Hall of the Presidium of the NAS RA (24, Marshal Baghramyan Avenue) at 11:00 a.m.

In October 28, 2025, an informational meeting with the Committee of the "Young Scientists Support Program" will be held at the Round Hall of the Presidium of the NAS RA at 16:00
