Study of the architectonics of plant stems: anatomical-morphological structure, physico-mechanical distinctions of the substance, theoretical and experimental studies of the stem cutting process. Identification of the most favorable cutting method from a kinematic and energy point of view and development of cutting devices implementing it (15 in number). Theoretical and scientific-experimental research is also devoted to the development of effective vibration technologies for the mechanization of laborious processes in agricultural production, scientific foundations for substantiating the technological and geometric parameters of working bodies and the operating mode of agricultural machinery. Over the past 10 years, the researches of A. Tarverdyan have been focused on the development and adjustment of soil-cultivating rotary tillers for horticulture, as well as agrobots, which are an important industry for the republic. 

Graduated from the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization of the former Armenian Agricultural Institute (1968), Candidate of Technical Sciences (1979), Docent (1983), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1997), Professor (2002), Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (2006), Full Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (2014).

Rector of the National Agrarian University of Armenia (1998-2018). Chief Researcher of the Department of Mechanization of Field Cultivation and Livestock Husbandry of the Research Institute of Agricultural Mechanization and Automation of NAUA (since 2019). Member of the Professional Council "Agricultural Mechanization and Machinery".

Honorary Doctor of the Timiryazev State Agrarian University of the Russian Federation, Krasnodar Agrarian University, and agricultural universities in Belarus, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Georgia, and Kazakhstan. Member of the editorial board of the international scientific journal "Bulletin of Agrarian Sciences" of Georgia.
