In February 17, 2009, in National Academy of Sciences RA, the general meeting of the Department for Armenology and Social Sciences was held. The members considered the application sent in by a number of US Armenian cultural and public organizations to the President of Republic of Armenia, Serge Sarkisyan. The members reviewed the video film “Falsification of Armenian history” produced by the applicants. The latter claim that the text-book “The Armenian People from Ancient to Modern Times”, which is in use in the United States since 1997, contains mostly politically motivated deliberate distortion of the history of Armenia by American historians.
At the general meeting of the Department a committee was formed consisting of academicians Hamlet A. Gevorkian [chairman ], Sen Arevshatyan, Babken Harouthyunyan, Ashot Melkonyan, Manwel Zoulalyan, Dr. Rouben Safrastyan, Dr. Aram Petrosyan. The committee was charged to consider the mentioned text-book and report its conclusion until March 20, 2009.
